Dear Brent School community,

With only four weeks left until our end-of-school-year celebrations, we want to cheer on all of our students as they approach the finish line. Our teachers and staff have been tirelessly committed to providing exceptional learning experiences, particularly as we have transitioned back to full in-person instruction. Let’s keep the positive momentum going by encouraging and supporting one another every step of the way! Here are some acknowledgments and updates:

We are pleased to announce that our Grade 12 Theatre students successfully completed their Solo Theatre Performances last week! Congratulations to our Grade 12 Theater students: Samara Faith Bangsoy, Catherine Doyle, Daniel Joseph Espina, Ailwyn Gayadon, Juan Miguel Luna, and Matthew John Sta. Maria)  who participated and gave their best performances and to Ms. Laura Johnson, IB Theatre faculty.

We would also like to extend our gratitude and congratulations to the Global Issues Network club for their successful Earth Week activities last week. Their efforts in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability are truly inspiring. Thank you, Ms. Geraldine Reyes and Ms. Donna Nebrija, GIN supervisors.

Group 4 Presentations: congratulations to our Junior and Senior Science classes for a successful Group 4 project last week and to our IB Sciences faculty: Mr. Drew Hare, Engr. Kris Nebrija, and Mr. Paul Engler. The “Group 4” project is an activity that involves collaboration between students from different scientific disciplines in the IB Diploma Programme. It aims to help these students understand and appreciate the impact that science has on the environment, society, and ethics by taking a multidisciplinary approach.

Art classes with Ms. Anja Diel |  Huge thanks to Ms. Anja Diel for her volunteer work in teaching Drawing: Portrait in Charcoal and Paper with emphasis on Chiaroscuro to Grade 9; Painting: Portrait in Art Acrylic and Paper with emphasis on figurative art by Lucian Freud to Grade 11 IB Art; Portrait Drawing to Grades 4 and 5; and Basic Drawing to Grades 2 and 3.

Ms. Anja Diel is a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge in the UK and is the older sister of Vera Diel, a new student at Brent School. Ms. Diel arrived in Baguio with her family and is eager to experience more of the Philippines after living in England for most of her life. With her First Class degree in English and a specialism in Renaissance period literature, the poetry of Emily Dickinson, and Tragedy (Greek and Shakespearean), Ms. Diel hopes to explore and learn more about the field of education through volunteering at Brent International School. She also has extensive experience in the arts and film, having completed several art courses and co-founded and been the president of the film society at Jesus College, Cambridge. Ms. Diel has been helping out with  Art and has been invited to provide advice on applying to universities in the UK, having gone through the process herself. She is excited to reconnect with life and culture in the Philippines and hopes to be exposed to the broader international community in Asia through this experience. Our huge thanks once again to Ms. Anja Diel!
