The Brent International School Baguio community gathered today for the First Holy Eucharist of School Year 2026–2027, coming together in worship, fellowship, and reflection. At the heart of the service was this year’s chapel theme, “Be Respectful of Each Other,” inspired by Matthew 7:12:
“In everything do to others as you would have them do to you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
The theme calls the Brent community to make respect part of everyday school life—not only through words, but through kindness, understanding, compassion, and the way we treat those around us.
Living the Theme
Students took active roles throughout the Holy Eucharist, serving as acolytes, Scripture readers, prayer leaders, offering ministers, and musicians.
The Scripture readings reflected the message of the school year. The first lesson from Leviticus 19 called on the community to love one’s neighbor, while Philippians 2 encouraged humility and reminded everyone to consider the interests and needs of others.
The Gospel, read by Father Richard Egmalis returned to the central message of **Matthew 7:12—the Golden Rule—**followed. This was reinforced by the homily delivered by Bishop Richard Stone Banagui.
Building a Community of Respect
During the intercessions, prayers were offered for the entire Brent community and for the school to remain a place where every person is welcomed with dignity and treated with respect. Prayers were also offered for the Board of Trustees, school leadership, faculty and staff, parents, students, and all those who contribute their time and talents to the life of the school.
The service also reminded the community that respect is demonstrated in everyday choices: listening with understanding, setting aside prejudice and harsh words, forgiving readily, showing patience and kindness, and honoring one another.
As another school year begins, the First Holy Eucharist offered the Brent community an opportunity to come together in gratitude and to reflect on the values that will guide the months ahead.
“Be Respectful of Each Other” is more than the chapel theme for SY 2026–2027. It is an invitation to every Brentonian to help build a community in which respect is practiced, kindness is shared, and each person is valued.
May this spirit guide us throughout the school year. In our classrooms, on the playing fields, in the dormitories, around our campus, and wherever the Brent journey takes us.
