SEPTEMBER 6-11 2-5 AND UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

Dear Brent Community,

After several weeks of weather-related disruptions, hybrid arrangements, and Flexible Learning Days, we are especially grateful for the opportunity to have had a few days of in-person classes this week. Thank you to our students, families, faculty, and staff for their patience and flexibility.

Continuing to Strengthen Health, Safety and Preparedness

As we return to a fuller rhythm of school life, we also continue the important work of strengthening the systems that support the safety and well-being of our community.

As part of Brent Schools Inc.’s continuing commitment to school safety and emergency preparedness, a Brent Baguio team travelled to Brent Manila on September 5–6 to participate in specialized inter-Brent safety and emergency response training together with representatives from Brent Manila and Brent Subic.

We acknowledge and thank our Brent Baguio participants for giving their weekend to this important professional learning opportunity:

They were joined by representatives from our security team, helping ensure that our delegation reflected several areas involved in campus operations and emergency response.

As part of our regular health, safety, and preparedness program, the Brent community may expect:

emergency, evacuation, earthquake, lockdown, and other safety drills;

first aid, medical response, and emergency preparedness training;

regular review of campus health and safety procedures;

safety inspections and preparedness exercises;

health education and preventive health initiatives;

continuing professional development and inter-Brent coordination among nurses, security personnel, and emergency response teams; and

regular random drug testing of students and employees, consistent with established Brent Schools practices, school procedures, and relevant guidelines.

Where advance information or specific procedures are needed, these will be communicated accordingly. We are grateful to our faculty, staff, health and safety personnel, security team, and colleagues across the Brent campuses for continuing to learn, prepare, and work together toward a safe and caring school environment.

Monday, September 7 – Day 1

It was good to begin the week with everyone back on campus. The Little Mermaid Jr. cast continued rehearsals, while our Lower School Production students began their acting workshop and production practice. Our CAS faculty advisors and student facilitators also met as preparations for this year’s CAS activities continued.

Tuesday, September 8 – Day 2

Thank you to our English and Modern Languages Departments for facilitating our Academic Integrity Assembly.

The session reminded students that academic integrity goes beyond rules about plagiarism. It is about honesty, responsibility, acknowledging the ideas and work of others, and developing one’s own voice as a learner. Resources from the session are also being made available to students and families through our Student-Parent Resource Page.

Our JCo student leaders also met for planning related to bonding, team building, and leadership development.

Wednesday, September 9 – Day 1

We recognized and welcomed our student leaders through the induction of our STUCO/JCo officers, House Leaders, and Class Officers.

Congratulations to our students who have accepted these responsibilities. Leadership at Brent is not simply about holding a position; it is an opportunity to serve, listen, contribute, and help build a positive school community.

Thank you as well to the parents who joined us for the Season 1 Parent Meeting, and to our coaches and Athletics team for supporting our student-athletes and their families as the season continues.

The Little Mermaid Jr. cast also continued rehearsals in the afternoon.

Our boys and girls volleyball teams also displayed their skills in tuneup games against Berkeley School.

Classes were once again conducted fully online today in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 135 issued by the Office of the President. Thank you to our students, parents, faculty, and staff for continuing to keep learning moving forward.

Fall MAP testing is scheduled for September 14 – 17, 2026. The detailed schedule may be accessed through this link.

If a student is unable to take their test on the assigned date, rescheduling can be done directly with Ms. Almae. Students who do not finish their tests within the regular block will return to the Ayrault computer lab after school for a continuation session, proctored by Ms. Almae. All testing materials and resources will be provided by the school.

In preparation, SEL/Strong Kids sessions this week will focus on reviewing MAP guidelines, practicing strategies for testing, and reflecting on previous scores. This will help students approach the assessment with confidence.

To ensure that all families have access to the key information, we are sharing presentation slides which cover:

  • How MAP testing is facilitated at Brent Baguio
  • The goal and purpose of the assessment
  • How teachers use test scores in the classroom
  • A sample student progress report with guidance on how to read and interpret results
  • Ways to help your child at home and prepare for testing
  • What to look out for, such as signs of test anxiety
