Middle School Social Squad and Grade 8 Religious Studies students took learning beyond the classroom today through “Rooted in Responsibility,” a tree-planting activity held at the Baguio Arboretum.

Conducted in partnership with the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), the activity gave students an opportunity to put environmental responsibility and service into practice while contributing to the care of Baguio City’s natural environment.

The theme, “Rooted in Responsibility,” reflects an important part of a Brent education: encouraging students to recognize that learning comes with a responsibility to contribute positively to the communities and environments of which they are a part.

For the Grade 8 Religious Studies students, the activity also provided an opportunity to connect classroom learning with action. Planting a tree may be a simple act, but it carries a lasting message about stewardship—caring for the environment today while considering the people who will inherit it in the future.

Working alongside CEPMO at the Baguio Arboretum also allowed students to engage with the wider Baguio community and see how individuals, schools, and local institutions can work together toward a shared purpose.

As each seedling was placed into the ground, students were reminded that responsibility is demonstrated not only through what we say or learn, but through what we choose to do.

Through “Rooted in Responsibility,” Brent Baguio students planted more than trees. They strengthened a connection with their community, their environment, and the responsibility each of us shares in caring for the world around us.
