Dear Brent family,
Welcome back from the break! We hope that everyone has gotten the time to rest, have quality time with family, and recharge!
Our United Nations Week+ celebrations ended with a meaningful and interactive assembly which was attended by ALL our students from Grade 1-12! Hosted by the Global Issues Network (GIN) team, we learned about possibilities for creative economies– from handcrafted work or ideas from our Lower School students to looking at community service examples by well-known celebrities. Indeed, making a positive, creative and sustainable difference can be done by each and every one of us. Well done, GIN! Congratulations once again to the UN Week+ Committee, led by Mr. Jameson Brame, for all the hard work in putting together events that support this year’s United Nations International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development and as well as our Brent ESLRs.
Here are some updates as we look forward to finishing this semester strong!

Grade 11 and 12 Active Brains, Active Bodies Program November-December – As Healthy Individuals (ESLR 4), we understand that being active is an important part of any healthy lifestyle and that being stationary at a computer all day is not constructive for our students’ bodies or their brains–especially for our seniors and juniors. As a solution to this challenge, we have decided to add an activity class to our Grade 11 and 12 students’ school day since they do not have PE class. Dubbed as the Grade 11/12 Active Bodies, Active Brains (ABAB) program, this class will occur on Mondays and Thursdays after school as well as Tuesdays during homeroom. Since this is a pilot program of the class, we will be running this only until the end of this semester. Cheers to our CAS Coordinator, Ms. Laura Johnson and our volunteer faculty leading these sessions: Coaches Boy and Nathan. We also want to recognize and thank student-initiators who will be leading some sessions: Jennis Martinez, Grade 12 and many more! Cheering for our seniors and juniors!

Sustainability Summit Manila 2021: No Change Too Small- Ten of our Global Issues Network Club members and their supervisors, Ms. Donna Nebrija and Mrs. Geraldine Reyes, will be attending this summit on November 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Hosted by IS Manila, the summit hopes to get students from different schools together and look at potential partnerships in community service activities. Here’s cheering for our GIN team and we look forward to what they will share and learn during the summit! An email will be sent today, to the parents of the 10 GIN members who volunteered to represent BRENT Baguio.

International Training | Faculty Development: As lifelong learners, 19 of our faculty will be attending sessions on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with Katie Novak on November 6 & 13, 2021. This is hosted by the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS). We look forward to learning best practices and mindsets that will continue to support the quality delivery of the Brent education experience and a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Here’s acknowledging and cheering for our faculty who will be attending! Hats off to our dedicated team of educators!

We remain committed to sustaining what’s great and improving through experience and reflection. We will continue to approach this school year with curiosity, agility and a growth mindset.
While we have challenges and difficulties because of this extended crisis, let’s work together, communicate effectively and collaborate as a team so that we can overcome them and #BeourBestatBrent.
May our theme, Abound in Hope, our Mission, Vision, ESLRs and Brent Crest values continue to inspire and make us resilient during these extraordinary times.
Stay safe and God bless us all,
Dr. Celeste R. Engler
